Reese’s 2022 All-Senior Bowl Team

In 2021, Cody predicted eight of 32 picks in Round 1 of the 2021 NFL Draft. He looks to improve even more in 2022. Look for more Mock Drafts in the Dynasty Deluxe section under NFL Draft Index. Philadelphia Eagles

The luxury of three first-round picks in the NFL Draft is it allows you the maximum opportunity. Option A) trade up into the top 5, with two of the picks. Option B) pick a player you Want at No. 15, a player you need at No. 16, and trade out of No. 19. Option C) make all three selections.

No. 15 – Drake London, WR – USC

In this scenario, the Eagles keep all three picks and use the first on a wide receiver for the third consecutive year. The benefit? Drake London is not like Devonta Smith or Jalen Reagor. Not anywhere close. London is a dominant alpha, with an 18.1 (99th-percentile among qualified wide receivers) Breakout Age, and over 120 targets in eight games before his 2021 ankle injury. He competed for targets as a true freshman at USC with the likes of Michael Pittman, Tyler Vaughns, and Amon-Ra St. Brown while catching balls from the underwhelming Kedon Slovis.

Drake London Advanced Stats & Metrics Profile

It is yet to be determined if London will be healthy enough to run the 40-yard dash at this spring’s NFL Combine. But scouts are already elevating him despite the broken ankle. There are mock drafters with London as high as pick No. 8 to the Atlanta Falcons.

No. 16 – Devin Lloyd, LB – Utah

The baddest man in the 2022 NFL Draft, Devin Lloyd will be a key addition to this Philadelphia Eagles linebacking core that hasn’t had a Top 10 tackler in the NFL since DeMeco Ryans in 2013. Lloyd is a high-IQ, downhill pass rusher and run defender that can be trusted on passing downs. He registers at a 7.6 on Cody’s D.A.W.G scale.

No. 19 – Sauce Gardner, CB – Cincinnati

Arguably the best cornerback in the 2022 NFL Draft, Ahmed “Sauce” Gardner would be a great value at pick No. 19. I wouldn’t fault the Eagles for taking him at No. 15 either.

Darius Slay finished inside the top 3 of the PlayerProfiler.com Cornerback Rankings in 2021. However, his counterpart Steven Nelson struggled in coverage, finishing outside the top 60 in receptions allowed (No. 67), yards allowed (No. 62), and passer rating allowed (No. 84). Adding Gardner to Slay and Avonte Maddox on the backend would solidify the secondary.

No. 51 – Drake Jackson, EDGE – USC

The Eagles look to add depth here. Drake Jackson brings that to a Philadelphia front that finished 2021 with 9 sacks, No. 31 in the NFL. Jackson can play a similar role to potential first-round selection Devin Lloyd. But he can play with his hand in the dirt more often than not. He finished with 25 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks in three seasons at USC.

No. 83 – Verone McKinley, S – Oregon

Since the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Verone McKinley’s draft stock has continued to climb after a solid showing via a mid-week invitation from Jim Nagy. He led the Pac 12 in interceptions in 2020 while playing next to Miami Dolphins 2021 second-round pick Jevon Holland. After an up and down four years at Oregon, McKinley looks to take his leadership, ball-hawking ability and nickname “The General” to the NFL Combine, where he can continue his trek up the draft boards with a hyper-athletic showing similar to what we have seen from safeties in prior years. Think of Byron Jones and Jeremy Chinn skyrocketing into Round 1, and Round 2.

No. 122 – Thayer Munford, OL – Ohio State

Continuing to add youth to this offensive line is key. In 2021, the Eagles added Rimington award winner Landon Dickerson in Round 2. This year it’s Thayer Munford, an all-Big 10 offensive tackle. Munford looks to move down to guard in the NFL with the ability to play tackle. Jason Kelce is a free agent and could retire this offseason, allowing Dickerson to start at center and Munford to compete with one of the guard positions with Jack Driscoll and Isaac Seumalo, who suffered a Lisfranc injury in September.

NFC Contenders?

Entering the 2022 NFL offseason with three draft picks in the top 20 is a hell of a way to start. But having only $13,609,546 in cap space could hamper some offseason plans that Eagles fans have envisioned. Such as trading for a quarterback. The Eagles need to address the pass rush, the back end, and the wide receiver position (again). With the above draft, I believe the Eagles can make a better run at the Dallas Cowboys (12-5) that won the NFC East. Finishing at 9-8 in Coach Nick Sirianni’s first seasons is a great accomplishment. Now onto Year 2, the year of growth. Trust the process at quarterback with Jalen Hurts, and surround him with talent to excel in 2022.
