The Fantasy Supermarket: Players to Buy in Dynasty

Dynasty Leagues

Looking for a running back that may be on sale? How about a wide receiver that is being discounted due to bad reviews? Maybe a quarterback or tight end whose price is about to skyrocket? This is the right place. Welcome to the Fantasy Supermarket, dynasty edition.

The players that are in the Fantasy Supermarket have indicators suggesting that now is the right time to buy in dynasty formats. I’ll be using advanced analytics and metrics from PlayerProfiler.com’s Data Analysis tool to highlight which players are worth buying into. But you have to act now because these current prices will not last long.

Isiah Pacheco

Playing running back in a Patrick Mahomes offense will always carry a mass of value. So much so that it can be difficult acquiring that player. However, the team has used multiple backs in 2022 and that opens a window to buy. First things first, the Kansas City Chiefs let Isiah Pacheco wear number ten which had been worn by Tyreek Hill. For the Chiefs to feel comfortable giving a former superstar’s number to a seventh-round rookie speaks volumes about how they value the running back. Now that I got the ‘bro science’ out of the way, let’s dive into why now is the right time to buy into the rookie.

Isiah Pacheco’s Advanced Metrics

From Weeks 1 – 11, Pacheco did not play much. He averages a Snap Share of 23.7-percent. After the Bad Running Back was placed on the IR, Pacheco began to take off. From Weeks 12 – 18, he averaged 80.1 yards from scrimmage and 12.6 Fantasy Points per Game. The Kansas City running back posted 4.8 True Yards per Carry (No. 10 among qualified running backs) and 5.2 Yards per Touch (No. 16). And in the postseason he is averaging 93 yards from scrimmage per game. Even with the improved performances, PlayerProfiler has Pacheco ranked as RB 30 in the Dynasty Ranks. I would tend to believe that the fantasy community would reflect the same value for the running back. That is exactly why now is the right time to buy. If he goes into 2023 as the Chiefs’ starting running back, then his value will soar.

Brock Purdy

Editor’s Note: Brock Purdy’s status may change in the coming weeks as he may need Tommy John surgery. As far as I can see, as I write this, the fact that Purdy needs Tommy John surgery has neither been confirmed nor denied.

The rookie quarterback was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, so he was a long shot to play. Not only did he get a chance to sling it he led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game. He played so well down the stretch that the fantasy world began to speculate that San Francisco would move on from the former third-overall pick, Trey Lance, and roll with Mr. Irrelevant. That hype caused his value to skyrocket, but that value may have come crashing down. Brock Purdy suffered a torn UCL and is expected to take five to six months to fully recover. I don’t know if the injury completely takes him out of the running to be the starting quarterback in 2023. That is why fantasy team builders who play in superflex formats should take advantage of the current sale.

In six regular season games started this year, Purdy had 14 total touchdowns and posted a 67.1-percent completion percentage. However, buying Purdy in dynasty isn’t so much about buying into his talent as much as it’s a fantastic opportunity to acquire a quarterback with a massive upside. Doesn’t matter if the upside relies on his offensive weapons like Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, and George Kittle. It doesn’t matter if it’s San Fransisco’s offense scheme because it still boosts his fantasy output. His Receiver Target Separation was 2.12 (No. 10 among qualified quarterbacks) and his Receiver Yards After Catch per Target was 4.54 (No. 1).

Purdy’s teammates propelled him to finish 2022 with three top 10 QB weekly finishes and five top 15 QB weekly finishes. Taking advantage of a discounted price on a quarterback in superflex is always a good process. Buy now and then hold or sell later. Either way, it’s a ticket to profit city.

Dynasty Supermarket Wrap-Up

Acquiring players at the right time is a major key to success in fantasy football. Dynasty managers can capitalize during particular parts of the season. While the NFL Playoffs are underway, fantasy team builders can get ahead of the off-season chaos. Players will change teams, players will be drafted, and players may lose their roles. Getting ahead of the NFL off-season can bring massive profits to fantasy rosters. Happy shopping and please come on back to the Fantasy Supermarket when you’re ready to buy again.
