Upside Wide Receivers For Week 11 GPPs

Upside Plays

This weekly series covers several cost-efficient wide receivers who provide massive upside for GPP tournament lineups. These are typically wideouts with high volatility in a pass-heavy environment in a game projected to produce a lot of points. We’ll use advanced stats and metrics from the PlayerProfiler Data Analysis Tool to identify each player.

Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers

All three of Pittsburgh’s starting wideouts saw double-digit targets and found the end zone in Week 10. But it was Diontae Johnson who led the team in receiving yards with 116 and finished as the WR5 on the week. Johnson has seen 10 or more targets in five of nine games this season, with 39 targets over the last four.

When Johnson has been on the field and healthy, he has been productive. His 19.4-percent Hog Rate ranks No. 3 among qualified wide receivers. This game features two high-volume passing offenses, so despite the low over/under, Johnson will still see plenty of opportunity to rack up fantasy points against one of the league’s worst pass defenses in Jacksonville. You can’t go wrong at $5,900.

D.J. Chark, Jacksonville Jaguars

On the flip-side of the previous game is D.J. Chark and the Jaguars, who average 40.9 (No. 6) Team Pass Plays per Game. Rookie quarterback Jake Luton has shown the willingness to air it out downfield to his top playmaker. That has resulted in 238 Air Yards over the last two weeks. Chark holds a 33.8-percent (No.13) Air Yards Share, so as long as Luton is looking downfield, Chark will benefit as we saw in his 146-yard outing in Week 9.

While the Steelers feel like an intimidating matchup, they actually rank middle of the pack against the pass and are tied for the third-most touchdowns allowed to opposing wide receivers. We know Chark can produce the boom weeks and he will likely see low ownership because of the matchup despite the $5,700 price tag on DraftKings.

Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings

Justin Jefferson continued his incredible rookie season with eight receptions on 10 targets for 135 yards in Monday’s win over the Bears. He led the Vikings in targets, receptions, and receiving yards while posting his fourth 100-yard outing of the season. Jefferson has been impressive not only from a pure numbers perspective, but also in terms of efficiency. The rookie leads all wide receivers in Yards Per Target, Yards Per Route Run, Production Premium, and Expected Points Added. He maintains a 97.1-percent (No. 22) Route Participation mark while holding a 33.0-percent (No. 15) Air Yards Share. Jefferson gets a juicy matchup against a Cowboys defense that has surrendered the most touchdowns and fifth-most Fantasy Points per Game to opposing wide receivers. He’s in a smash spot at just $6,000 on DraftKings.
