You could make the case that no wide receiver in this year’s draft class dominated the college game for four years as much as Eastern Washington Cooper Kupp did. Before digging too much into his history, if you make the decision to stop reading here, just know that he never caught fewer than 93 passes in a single season, never had fewer than 1,431 yards, and his lowest touchdown total in a season was 16.

As a true freshman at Eastern Washington, Kupp posted 93 receptions for 1,691 yards and 21 touchdowns, averaging a career high 18.2 yards per reception. He then went on to catch 104 passes for 1,431 yards and 16 touchdowns as a sophomore, and turned 114 receptions into 1,632 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior.

Sticking with his productive three-year tradition, Kupp finished his senior season with career highs of 117 receptions for 1,700 yards and still found the end zone 17 times. He closed out his career as an FCS record holder in career receptions (428), receiving yards (6,464) and receiving touchdowns (73). Now he needs to overcome the small-school stigma, and the fact that he is one of the oldest rookies in this year’s class.

Cooper Kupp Advanced Stats & Metrics Profile

An underwhelming combine could hurt Kupp’s stock slightly, after the small-school stud ran a lumbering 4.62 40-yard dash (22nd-percentile) and had a Height-adjusted Speed Score of 90.8 (34th-percentile). A 110.7 Burst Score (6th-percentile) will do little to help his athletic profile, however his 10.83 Agility Score did place him in the 88th-percentile among players in the NFL at his position.

PlayerProfiler.com compares Kupp to former NFL wide receiver Austin Collie, which matches a player with another who most closely fits his physical attributes and athletic profile. It should come as no surprise that Kupp’s most impressive metric is his 40.4-percent College Dominator Rating (79th-percentile), which calculates an individual player’s total receiving yards and touchdowns among team totals during his time at school. College dominators have the potential to develop into solid NFL players given their excessive amount of opportunities at the collegiate level, and the sure-handed Kupp should not be viewed as any exception.

Kupp will enter 2017 as a 24-year old rookie, giving him little way to be viewed as a project player. He will need to make immediate flashes at camp, and could sneak his way into a wide receiver three spot early on the right roster. He spent most of his time in college dominating out of the slot, which will be a coveted position for multiple NFL teams looking to improve their passing attack in the middle of the field. With strong hands and a 6-foot-2, 204-pound frame, Kupp has the size and ability to translate into a viable wide receiver, and could sneak his way into fantasy lineups as the season progresses.
