The Fantasy Supermarket: Veterans to Buy in Dynasty

Dynasty Leagues

Looking for a running back that may be on sale? How about a wide receiver that is being discounted due to bad reviews? Maybe a quarterback or tight end whose price is about to skyrocket? This is the right place. Welcome to the Fantasy Supermarket, dynasty edition.

The players that are in the Fantasy Supermarket have indicators suggesting that now is the right time to buy in dynasty formats. I’ll be using advanced analytics and metrics from PlayerProfiler.com’s Data Analysis tool to highlight which players are worth buying into. But you have to act now because these current prices will not last long.

Amari Cooper

Buying veteran players in dynasty leagues can present fantastic opportunities especially late in the season. Team builders have visions of youth when they look towards the future but adding vets at a value is what can take your squad to the next level. Amari Cooper is a great buy candidate at this point of the season. How can Cooper be a buy when he has only gone over 10 fantasy points once in the last month? Well, this little downtick in scoring, plus some of the positive underlying metrics with new quarterback Deshaun Watson, set up the smart fantasy managers with a fantastic buying opportunity.

The Cleveland wide receiver already has over 1,000 receiving yards. He has eclipsed the 1K mark six times in his eight professional campaigns. Buying into that kind of consistency at a discount is exactly what fantasy managers should be targeting in dynasty leagues. Cooper played most of the 2022 season without Watson but still posted a 38.6-percent Air Yard Share (No. 7 among qualified wide receivers), 27-percent Target Share (No. 13), and a 40.2-percent Dominator Rating (No. 3). Since Watson has returned to the lineup (four games), Cooper has averaged eight targets a game and 87.3 Air Yards per contest. Both metrics lead the Browns’ pass catchers, and it is clear that Cooper is the WR 1 for Cleveland.

A.J. Dillon

Trading for veterans doesn’t mean you have to target players closer to 30. In 2023, AJ Dillon will be entering his fourth season and will be just about 25 years of age. Now is the time to try and buy some Dillon because his stock may just continue to rise in the coming months. As it stands today, he will be sharing a backfield with Aaron Jones. On top of playing second fiddle, Dillon has yet to have a season where he rushed for 1,000 yards. Those two factors should weigh down the tailback’s value enough to buy. Timing is everything when it comes to acquiring players in dynasty formats. That is precisely why the Fantasy Supermarket is highlighting this sale now.

AJ Dillon Advanced Stats & Metrics Profile

In weeks one through 11 Dillon averaged 7.3 fantasy points per game. His stock was at a low point. Over the past four weeks, he has improved vastly. In the past month, he’s averaging 18.4 fantasy points per game. No question, his value has increased, but managers may be looking to move on if they believe this is a value peak. It is not a bad thing to buy high if the value projects to maintain or even continue to rise. I believe that Dillon’s fantasy value will continue to climb.

Dillon has 902 total yards from scrimmage and has a 44.1-percent Opportunity Share. The reason that number is below 50-percent is due to him sharing the backfield with Aaron Jones. The Packers have a potential out following the season. They can save about ten million bucks by releasing Jones. If that happens, Dillon’s price tag will skyrocket, and the buy window will shut. The sale at the Fantasy Supermarket is around for a limited time only, so buy while you can.

Wrap Up

Acquiring players at the right time is a major key to success in fantasy football. Dynasty managers can capitalize during particular parts of the season. Late in the year, veteran players can be acquired at a discount because fantasy managers become infatuated with youth when looking forward to the future. Amari Cooper and A.J. Dillon are two players that are worth targeting in dynasty. Happy shopping and please come on back to the Fantasy Supermarket when you’re ready to buy again.
